NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!!!

Hey everyone!! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was very relaxing since we had Monday off for MLK Day. So I got some much needed rest! David and I hung out around his house with his family and we also went to see Paddington (my pick-it was so sweet!) and American Sniper (David's pick). WOW! They were both great but American Sniper was so emotional and patriotic and I LOVED it. David actually went with friends yesterday to see it again! What an amazing story about an exceptional man! My heart goes out to his wife and kids as well as our military and veterans! They do so much more than we know or think we know. The sacrifices they make and things that they endure are just so unimaginable but I am so thankful we have brave women and men that fight willingly and with honor to ensure we keep our freedom! (Sorry, I just got on a rant but it was seriously so good, everyone should see it!) This post is one I did on New Years Day and I am just now getting to share it with you all but better late than never right?!

So one of my favorite things to do is to apply makeup to myself or my friends! There is just something about makeup that makes it sort of like art, in a sense you are creating a masterpiece on your face! I am not saying makeup is for everyone because I know some people are allergic to it or don't like it , and some people prefer not too wear much at all. Whatever your preference is I'm sure you look great! Different strokes for different folks ya know? But anyway I am just fascinated by the colors and brushes, and lip stains and glosses... I'm getting carried away but seriously I love it! But lately since I am a speech therapist in a school system and I wake up just in time to throw on some clothes, brush my teeth and rush out the door I haven't made much time for glam before school. So I have a five minute foundation, powder, concealer, mascara, gloss routine down pat but when it comes to getting ready to go out on dates, or for special occasions I have sort of been in a makeup slump. Which is no fun because I love learning new application teqniques and trying different products! So, for the new year I decided to treat myself to a makeover! And this wasn't just any makeover where you go to a cosmetic counter in the mall and they put whatever makeup THEY think you need on and everything is so expensive and you end up feeling like you should buy a product or two from them before you leave (even if you aren't thrilled with the way it looks or how much it costs!!). That is not a fun makeover and I usually go straight to the mall bathroom and scrub my face before I walk out of the store. So for this makeover I chose an extremely talented cosmetologist who has her own business, Brittany Benton Massey Hair and Makeup! Ya'll, I have stalked her and her work for years on Facebook and Instagram and was dying to have her do my makeup! I contacted her through email and since I was in such a rush to get this post up she willingly let me come to her house on New Years Day and have her do it! (Yes, I know she's awesome!) You guys she is beautiful in pictures but she is a ray of sunshine when she walks into the room! Seriously, she is so genuinely beautiful inside and out and she uses her talent to make others look and feel beautiful too! Did I mention she has the most precious family ever? Because she so does!! Her and her husband welcomed their second child in November of last year. Brittany and her husband are two of the sweetest people you will ever meet and their children are just so precious it's not fair!! I'm getting off track but I can't help it I just want everyone to meet them and know about their incredible family!!... But anyway, Brittany immediately introduced herself when she walked into the room  and said how excited she was to be doing my makeup for my blog photos (more coming soon) and encouraged me about the whole blogging process! (She is SO great, I am trying to get her to do a blog/website too because she is just so precious and has the most perfect little family!-maybe you all can help me talk her into it!)  So after letting me meet her sweet family and talking with me about my vision for the blog, she asked if I had a particular look in mind and I told her I wanted a dramatic but natural eye and natural lips. And that is exactly what I got! After she finished, I asked her if I could look at some of the products she used on me and I was surprised that it was a mix of high quality products and really awesome drugstore steals!! Meaning this look can be created for anyone's budget! Another perk I love! Below are some pictures of the getting ready process taken by the wonderful Koli Nichols www.kolinicholsphotography.com ! If you are interested in having Brittany do makeup or hair for your special occasion contact me for her info or check her out here www.facebook.com/BBMhairandmakeup !

It's a new year full of new beginnings so why not update your look by refreshing your old makeup stash? It is so much fun to mix new products with ones you consider to be your makeup must-haves! I would love to hear what some of your staple products are so tell me by subscribing and commenting below!  ** Also, In the pictures below I had not yet done my hair. I showered and let it air-dry while Brittany did my makeup! So that is why it looks the way it does..whoops! But, I did do my hair after at home before taking any more pictures! Hope you all enjoy!!

XOXO,

Erin

Special thanks to these two talented ladies! Couldn't have done it without either of them!

Year 24

Hey everyone! I hope you are enjoying the blog so far! I am LOVING sharing these posts with you!  Next week the posts will be be more recent but I so wanted to share this special celebration that my family had for me on my birthday which was last wednesday, January 7th! I love that my birthday falls right after the start of a new year! In a way, it makes me really "feel" older! haha if that makes any sense! New year, new age...Anyway, it's great! So my family wanted to celebrate me and what better way to do that than decorate with things that I love like my moms antique serving ware and with my favorite sweet treats (we did not have chocolate covered strawberries but I LOVE those too!) The petit fours are from a local bakery and were delicious! But about that cake...my dad works with this man whose wife makes the most delicious cakes ever!! My favorite is her red velvet cake with cream cheese icing! (Did I mention that both the cake and the icing are homemade?) It's seriously the best! I have tried to get the recipe from her but she won't budge! So if any of you have an amazing red velvet cake recipe please share it with me!! I would love to try it!

I am so excited you all get to see the first of many pictures I will post of Patton on this blog! He is always by my side and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Hey everyone! My name is Erin Caroline Sellars and I am 24 years old and I live in the extremely small town of Lowndesboro, Alabama. Lowndesboro is a beautifully preserved antebellum community with a population of roughly 200! Yes, I know that is unbelievably small! However, this small town still maintains a rich tradition and a contagious community atmosphere. (Post on the history of this exquisite town to be featured later on the blog!) The landscape of Lowndesboro consists mainly of dirt roads surrounded by trees adorned with spanish moss and pastures filled with grazing livestock. There is also an abundance of both cotton and hay fields. At night you can step out on your porch and look up to see the star filled sky without buildings and city lights obscuring your view.  And it is so quiet and peaceful! Seriously it is quite dreamy!

As far as my educational background goes, I attended Lowndes Academy, the only school in Lowndesboro, from kindergarten through 12th grade. (Fun Fact: I graduated with 26 people!-how crazy is that?) I then attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, where I met some of my best friends, joined a social sorority (Shoutout to Chi Omega!), and participated in various campus organizations such as International Justice Mission, College of Liberal Arts Student Ambassador Society, and RUF (Reformed University Fellowship). I graduated from Auburn in May of 2013, with a bachelor of science degree in communication disorders. My plan (I laugh when I hear myself say that) was to immediately go back to school (preferably, Auburn) and pursue a masters of speech-language pathology degree. I laugh when I say "my" plan because my plans totally fell through. Although I had a slightly above average GPA, great relationships with faculty, and letters of recommendation, I was not accepted for admission to graduate school. That really hurt my ego. But little did I know that the Lord was saying to me "trust me. my plans for you are far better than anything you could plan for yourself.") Im not going to say it was easy to accept because it definitely was not but I sought Him for guidance and answers and not long after was contacted by a dear friend about a job opportunity in Selma with the school system and was hired by the Special Education Department to be one of their three SLP's (speech-language pathologist)! This is my second year here and it is a job full of ups and downs and laughs and cries. I am needed by these kiddos far more than I ever thought and truth be told I need them even more! I will never get tired of hearing them call my name, "Ms. Sellars," or seeing them run through the hallway and throw their arms around me for a hug, inviting me to their birthday parties, and coloring me pictures! The Lord has taught me so much about trust, faith, selflessness, and unconditional love in these past 2 years and I am so thankful! It is such a blessing to be a part of these kids' lives and I consider it a privilege to be able to love on them and to watch them grow and overcome the many obstacles they face. Ok, sorry for the emotional rant but I just love them and thank God for this "portion" in my life right now!

My desire for erincaroline is to be a source for inspiration that covers everything from fashion and beauty to home and travel. I just realized I left someone of immense importance out...my dog child, Patton! Patton is a beautiful english setter and is seriously the best dog ever! Like hands down, the best! I adopted Patton at the age of 4 and he is now 7 years old! He has been mine for 3 going on 4 years! He loves babies, children, cuddles, and extremely long naps (basically we are the same person!) But seriously, just wait until I post a picture of him, I just know you will love him too! Other people of importance are my two wonderful parents who, praise the Lord, have been married for 30 years and set such a wonderful example of the importance and necessity of marriage. I also have a younger sister, Morgan. Morgan is almost exactly three years younger than me and is one of my best friends! And then there is David. David and I have been dating for six almost seven months! He is my best friend and I love going on adventures with him! David, you're the best!

Basically, I started this blog for fun and as a way to give you a glimpse into my life! Featuring: fashion, beauty, travel, diy projects, photography, and things and people that I love!! Sorry for the lengthy and somewhat sappy first post but I hope it gives you a little insight into my life and plans and purpose for this blog! I hope that it encourages you to live an intentional life of purpose and to live a life of joy and happiness that glorifies the Creator! I am so humbled by the support and love shown to me by you all! Please subscribe and email/message me! I would love to get to know a little about each of you!! Ya'll are so awesome and I am excited to take on year 2015 with you all!!

Huge thank you to Koli Nichols and Brittany Benton Massey for being a huge part of this shoot! Literally couldn't have done it without you two!!
